Extensions to Art Deco House

The ‘Art Deco’ movement is often associated with large, early twentieth-century civic buildings or factories, such as the Hoover building at Perivale in London. However, the movement spread to take in private residences and this one, at the south of Bury St Edmunds, had seen better days. Our clients wished to faithfully refurbish the existing building, but to also create some large extensions that would blend seamlessly into the distinct aesthetic.

Site constraints demanded that we stray from total-symmetry and costs did not permit too many Egyptian motifs! but we hope to have properly captured the essence of the original, stand-out building, through careful attention to semi-restrained ‘glamour’ in the detailing (and a client willing to stay true to the striking clean-lines, geometry and sophistication of the modernist style.
