Arts and Crafts House, Essex

A small, unattractive bungalow once stood here. It had lovely views across the village green, but looking from the green towards it wasn’t so good.

The building employed ‘Arts & Crafts’ cues in its proportions and detailing, while also working within the restrictions of the local vernacular, which comprised single and 1.5 storey dwellings.

We undertook a ‘Full Service’ on this project, acting as the client’s eyes and ears for the duration of the build.

We really like our new home. Lee designed for us a high quality building that sits well in its Village Green context making good use of the site. It was important to us that Oaklea looked like it could always have been there. Lee then took us through a comprehensive pre-planning process to hone the design to fit our wishes. Post-planning, Mike's leadership of the team comprising the Quantity Surveyor, the builder and ourselves during the building phase produced both design enhancements and cost savings. JAP's overall approach meant no surprises for us as we were always kept informed. We would have no hesitation in recommending JAP to others.
