Listed Hall, Essex

This beautiful house had been in our client’s family for many years, but had seen better days when our client took on the reigns and moved into it with their young family.

A top-to-bottom renovation was the order of the day…and a cheeky rear extension to create a more modern family space that opened out to the gardens.
Tiles, render, paint, windows, pointing, modern partitions and fixtures were all removed. All salvageable materials were set-aside for re-use, while elsewhere we faithfully reproduced authentic detailing including delicate bronzed casement windows set into oak-mullion windows. We achieved a level of insulation rarely experienced in a house of this age — not quite ‘Huf Haus’, but fewer woolly hats were require inside!

From the adjacent farm access track, we ‘hid’ the new, vaulted extension behind an old wall and managed to convince heritage officers to allow us the luxury of an area of expansive glazing, designed to contrast with the historic window apertures, while harmonising with the overarching traditional design and materials selection. The quality of finish on this project, by Rose Builders, was exceptional.
