Phoenix from the ashes

After their thatched house burned down on Boxing day some years back, we visited the site the next day and, standing with the clients among the ruins, they simply asked us to design them a new house that looked like it had always been there – just not thatched.Within a year we had achieved a planning consent and construction was underway.

The finished house brings together authentic detailing and proportions, but also aims to appear as if it had evolved over time.

Carefully designed so that the existing, mature, gardens felt at one with the new home and were not damaged, the building contractor has to work within a very tight footprint, but had completed the works in a year.
